Faces of Boyd: Jay Hartzler
Account Executive
A Boyd Family Member Since 2017
When it comes to connecting with people, Jay Hartzler shines. Jay is known for his approachable nature, deep industry knowledge and dedication to helping customers bring their signage visions to life. Jay’s journey into signage came after 20 years in retail, where he developed a wide range of skills that proved invaluable in his new career. “Realizing that my experience could translate into many different fields was life changing,” he says.
He started at Boyd as a Project Manager before moving into Estimating and then into his current Account Executive role. “Now, I take that knowledge and my previous customer service experience and roll it all together to better help our customers.”
For Jay, every day brings a new opportunity to connect — whether it’s with customers or colleagues. “Connecting with people. It doesn’t matter if they are from within the company or a customer, that human connection is important to me,” he says.
One of Jay’s proudest moments came early in his sales career, when he worked on the IP Casino project in Biloxi, Mississippi. “It was the first large project I was a part of after I started in my current role. Helping to build the relationship with the customer and having them trust in me and Boyd was a great feeling.”
Most recently, Jay helped secure the largest contract in Boyd’s history — a milestone that reflects his commitment to our customers and the trust he’s built through years of dedication.
He describes Boyd’s team as a group driven by shared goals. “We’re a very diverse team from all walks of life, but we all care about each other and want to be the best at what we do.”
His advice for newcomers reflects that same growth mindset: “Learn as much as you can about materials and fabrication methods.” He admits it was a crash course when he started, but one that’s been essential to his success.
When he’s not connecting with customers or overseeing projects, Jay enjoys spending time with his wife, Wendy, who he describes as his biggest supporter and “perfect opposite.”
He’s also an avid comic book collector with around 10,000 issues and a huge fan of The Dark Knight, which he’s watched more times than he’ll admit.
